Quick Start

1 Run as Administrator

Start SerialSnoop.exe. Without administrator rights the program cannot inject into the target process and serial port enumeration is limited.

2 Choose what to monitor

Pick either entry point:

Entry pointWhen to use
By COM portThe port is known; monitor it directly
By processThe owner is unknown; look up which process holds the port, then inject

If the target has not opened the port yet, enable wait-for-open and monitoring starts as soon as the port is opened.

3 Inspect and export

  • Switch display between HEX, ASCII and Both;
  • Direction is shown as RX / TX, and OPEN / CLOSE events are recorded too;
  • Export the session when you need to keep it; the export keeps timestamps and direction.

Several targets can be monitored at once without conflict, because monitoring uses user-mode API hooks and does not occupy the physical port.

Next: Find the process holding a port.
